Josie White sent us this tip-If you want to protect the new growth in your garden, cut the bottoms off of clear two-litre bottles to create individual covers for your plants. Stick the covers over the plants with the cap removed and the bottle will keep the heat from the sun in while letting in enough air for the plant to thrive. |

Madge Wellington rang with this tip. If the pots you are using for pot plants are too large place empty plastic milk bottles in the bottom with there lids on. This help fill the pot so you don't use so much potting mix and does not damage the plant in any way. |

Thomas Ross rang us with how he grows strawberries - He stands a piece of drainpipe in the garden and pushes it down to the level of the soil (you can also use a cardboard tube) make sure the tube is empty of soil. He fills the tube with gravel and then adds compost. He removes the tube and plants the strawberry plant. This gives the drainage that strawberries need. He uses straw around the plant to keep the plant off the soil. |
